Higher Research Degrees in Sociology
Macquarie Sociology offers higher research degrees in Sociology at both doctoral and Masters level. Currently enrolled research students are investigating a wide range of topics dealing with the social world. These include research into the sociology of music, social policy and childcare, sociology of law and feminism, women prisoners, and different currents in social theory. Research students often visit other Australian and overseas universities during their studies, and the Department participates in the Cotutelle program with French universities.
Sociologists in the department have particular strengths in social theory and the sociology of culture, social movements, research into family and the intimate sphere, social policy and the sociology of work and employment. Research students also have access to the academic researchers and resources of the Division – Society, Culture, Media and Philosophy – and the larger university.
